   Consultation, Curriculum Development and Training
CHLP provides consultation, curriculum development and training for state and regional public health leadership development institutes across the U.S. on an ongoing basis.

   National Public Health Leadership (NPHLI)
The Center is currently a partner in the design and management of the NPHLI with the University of No. Carolina Institute of Public Health, the Center for Creative Leadership, and the Public Health Leadership Society. The goal: create new cadres of public health leaders who will help lead change in the public health system. PHLI is a one-year leadership development program for high-potential leaders with a commitment to leading in their own organizations and communities, but also leading system change on the national scene. Each year 50 public health leaders at the local, state and federal level in government, academia and the non-profit sector are selected to be participants in this year-long program. The NPHLI is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Completed Projects

CDC/UC Public Health Leadership Institute (PHLI)
The Center designed and managed the first national CDC/UC Public Health Leadership Institute (PHLI) from 1991-2000. The Institute trained over 500 top-level leaders from local, state, and federal public health as well as the international, academic, non-profit and private health sectors. Each cohort underwent a year-long, cross-cutting and integrated experience that included a five day retreat, distance learning, personal leadership assessment tools and professional development plan, and an action learning leadership project. PHLI led to the development of state and regional leadership institutes serving over 45 states, as well as institutes in England and Australia. The PHLI's alumni network, the Public Health Leadership Society (PHLS), is a highly respected health leadership network supporting innovation in public health.

   Public Health Leadership Society
The Center developed and managed the Public Health Leadership Society (PHLS), alumni association of the CDC/UC Public Health Leadership Institute, for 9 years (1992-2001). PHLS is today a highly visible leadership network supporting innovation in public health.

State Health Directors Executive Mentoring and Consultation Program
As a part of the State Health Leadership Initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Center conducted this program from 1998-2003 in collaboration with The National Governors Association, Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, Harvard University, and Cairo and Associates. The program provided peer mentoring and consultation to new state health directors by an experienced colleague. Over 40 new State Health Directors participated.
